HOMECOMING FAQ
Homecoming is a big week. Finding an answer shouldn't be. Search below to get the information you need.
What is different about Homecoming this year? +
Tennessee State University is reimagining Homecoming by building on the success and lessons learned from last year’s Sirius XM Activation. This year, Roar on the Yard becomes a more unified Homecoming Entertainment Event at Hale Stadium, bringing together music, entertainment, student and alumni engagement, and the spirit and traditions for an all in one experience designed to bring the Tiger family together.
Is TSU still having a Homecoming Pep Rally? +
Yes—but the Pep Rally is being reimagined as part of the larger Homecoming Entertainment Event.
The energy, school spirit, student participation, music, and traditions associated with the Pep Rally will be incorporated into the overall experience at Hale Stadium. Our goal is to preserve the traditions people value while continuing to elevate the Homecoming experience.
Is Roar on the Yard returning this year? +
Yes - We are building on the Roar on the Yard experience introduced last year and taking the concept to the next level.
What began as Roar on the Yard Activation with Sirius XM is evolving into a broader Homecoming Entertainment Event that combines the excitement and elements of the traditional Pep Rally, live entertainment, student experiences, alumni engagement, and other Homecoming activities.
Why is TSU changing the format? +
Homecoming continues to grow, and we want the experience to grow with it.
Last year provided an opportunity to try something new with Roar on the Yard. We learned from that experience, listened to feedback, and identified opportunities to improve the overall event.
This year’s approach is about building on what worked, improving what we learned, and continuing to raise the bar for TSU Homecoming.
Why is there an admission fee this year, and what does it cover? +
Producing a large-scale Homecoming Entertainment Event requires significant resources, including entertainment, production, staging, sound, lighting, security, facilities, event operations, and other services necessary to provide a quality experience.
Last year, national sponsorship support helped underwrite portions of the entertainment experience. That same sponsorship arrangement is not in place this year.
Guest ticket revenue helps TSU offset the costs associated with producing this year’s expanded Homecoming Entertainment Event while allowing eligible TSU students to attend free of charge.
Do TSU students have to pay? +
No. TSU provides free access for all eligible TSU students.
Students should follow the admission instructions posted at tigerhomecoming.com.
Why do alumni and other guests have to pay instead of using student activity fees? +
Student activity fees support student programs and services throughout the year.
The Homecoming Entertainment Event is designed for a much broader audience that includes students, alumni, family, friends, and members of the community. Guest ticket revenue helps offset the costs of producing the event while allowing TSU to continue providing free admission for eligible students.
We recognize that introducing an admission fee represents a change from some previous Homecoming experiences, and we appreciate the continued support of the Tiger family as we work to build an even stronger Homecoming tradition.
What can guests expect from the new Homecoming Entertainment Event? +
Guests can expect an energetic Homecoming atmosphere that brings together TSU spirit, music, entertainment, student participation, alumni engagement, and Pep Rally traditions in a larger experience at Hale Stadium.
The objective is simple: create an experience worthy of TSU Homecoming while continuing to improve it each year.
Are there free or lower-cost ways to celebrate Homecoming? +
Yes - Homecoming Week includes a variety of activities at different price points, including free and lower-cost events.
The TSU Nashville Alumni Chapter Fish Fry is scheduled during the same timeframe on the Presidential Lawn at 28th Avenue and John A. Merritt Boulevard. Fish Fry tickets are $20 plus applicable fees.
The full Homecoming calendar is available at tigerhomecoming.com.
Does any part of my ticket purchase count as a charitable donation? +
No - A ticket purchase pays for admission to the Homecoming Entertainment Event and does not qualify for charitable donation credit. This is very similar to University Athletic events.
Can children attend the Homecoming Entertainment Event for free? +
Yes. Children ages 5 and under may enter free when accompanied by a ticketed adult.
Can I buy a ticket at Hale Stadium? +
No - Tickets cannot be purchased at Hale Stadium and must be purchased online. Tickets will be available to purchase online, until capacity is reached.
All tickets are digital, so guests are encouraged to add their tickets to their phone’s digital wallet before arriving.
Can I bring food or drinks into Hale Stadium? +
Guests may bring nonalcoholic beverages into Hale Stadium. Outside food is not permitted.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase inside the stadium.
Can I leave the Entertainment Event to attend the Fish Fry and return? +
Yes. After initial entry, guests will receive a color-coded wristband identifying them as a paid guest.
Guests may leave to enjoy other Homecoming activities and return later. However, upon returning, guests must rejoin the appropriate entry line and complete security screening again.
Where should I enter Hale Stadium? +
There will be Three designated entrances:
Two General Admission entrances on John A. Merritt Boulevard
One Student-Only entrance near Wilson Hall
One General Admission and VIP entrance near the Wilma Rudolph statue for VIP Tent ticket holders
Guests should follow event signage and instructions from event personnel when arriving.
Will seating be available? +
Yes. The event layout this year includes up to 3,000 seats in the west-side bleachers with views of the stage and entertainment area.
Is accessible parking available, and do I have to pay to park? +
A limited number of accessible parking spaces will be available on campus. These spaces will be clearly marked and identified on the Homecoming campus map.
All on-campus parking is paid parking. Free parking is available at designated off-campus and remote parking locations identified on the map at tigerhomecoming.com.
What is TSU trying to accomplish with the new Homecoming experience? +
Homecoming is more than a single event—it is a celebration of Tennessee State University.
Our goal is to continue raising the bar each year. Last year was an important step forward with Roar on the Yard. We learned from that experience, and this year we are building upon it.
By bringing entertainment, Tiger spirit, Pep Rally traditions, students, alumni, and the community together in one larger experience, we are working to create a Homecoming tradition that honors what people love about TSU while continuing to evolve for the future.
